Cyan's Reprieve
The good news came on September 23 from Cyan Worlds employee Ryan "Grey Dragon" Warzecha. He posted the following to his blog: "The Return of the King: I really can't say much about it, but Cyan Worlds is back. I can't say for how long, but I can say we are back. We all moved into the cool building this last week. I'm glad to be back. It feels good." More good news were posted by Dean Takahashi to his blog in form of an e-mail by Rand Miller: "We've had a reprieve. Managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat (that I can't give details about yet), so we rehired almost everybody. Crazy industry. It's giving me whiplash!" | more 1 | 2 |

The End of Cyan?
The sad news started to spread on Friday: "End of Ages" - not only for Myst, but also in real life for Cyan. Cyan has laid off all but two employees, retaining only Rand Miller and Tony Fryman. Cyan has had financial difficulties for several years. During the development of Uru, they nearly ran out of money several times and there have been worries the game couldn't even be finished. Uru became a financial disaster - the Cancellation of Uru Live. Cyans finacial state became tight while the Uru Expansion Packs and Myst V were in production and it became critical when Cyan wasn't able to secure funding for their next project. Cyan still exists and
maybe funding could be gained, even at such a late stage. Unfortunately it is unlikely. All of this doesn't endanger the release of Myst V on September 22. The fourth Myst book "The Book of Marrim" is also still likely to be published. Nonetheless these are very sad news for Myst-fans and for the whole gaming industry. | more 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |

4th Myst Book "The Book of Marrim" coming this Year
For a long time it didn't seem to happen anymore, but with the announcement of a preview of "The Book of Marrim" in the European Myst V Collector's Edition it seems likely that the release of the fourth Myst book can't be far away. And so it is: Ubisoft Germany told me that the planned release is later this year.

Myst V: End of Ages European Collector's Edition Cover
Ubisoft released some boxshots showing the gorgeous European Collector's Edition. Similar to the Myst IV Collector's Edition the look and feel will be like a book.

Myst V: End of Ages Soundtrack
As you may know the European Collector's Edition has several differences from the US one. One of the biggest concerns the soundtrack: It will come on a seperate CD in the US Collector's Edition. In Europe people will find the soundtrack on the Bonus DVD. Probably as MP3 files.

Attention Mac Users: Myst V Regular Edition in the USA PC-only
Once more the Mac base among the Myst fans are very frustrated about Ubisoft latest move: The regular edition of Myst V in the USA won't ship on a DVD but as a 3-CD-set and the installation application used is unable to make an installation out of more than one disc when using a mac. That means the only way to install Myst V on a mac is from a DVD. You will need the more expensive Limited Edition to do so. I checked with Thorsten Kapp from Ubisoft Germany and he assured me that both Myst V versions beeing sold in Europe will be DVDs.
